Hi, I’m Christina Scourlas—founder of The Hermit Yogi.
I’m a Registered Nurse, 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 500), and Functional Yoga Medicine Certified Practitioner (FYMCP) with a specialized focus on Pilates-based movement and mobility.
My approach is rooted in therapeutic movement that nourishes the body, supports injury prevention, and promotes long-term functional health. I integrate core-focused strength, breath awareness, and alignment-based practices to help clients manage and prevent common issues like low back pain, joint discomfort, and postural imbalances.
Whether you’re returning to movement after injury, managing chronic pain, or simply seeking more freedom and ease in your body, my mission is to empower you with science-backed tools and mindful movement practices that restore strength, balance, and resilience.
This work isn’t just about feeling better—it’s about reclaiming your body’s potential.
My path into holistic healing is deeply personal, shaped by my experience as a Registered Nurse, 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 500), and Functional Yoga Medicine Certified Practitioner (FYMCP)—and by a calling to help others reclaim their health in ways that traditional medicine often overlooks.
In 2020, after two years of chronic pain, I was diagnosed with arthritis. I tried every solution my medical training could offer—anti-inflammatories, pain relievers, even facing lifelong steroid injections—but none of it felt like true healing. I experimented with ergonomic pillows and topical creams, but the relief was fleeting. It wasn’t until I found hot yoga that things began to shift.
Yoga taught me that healing is movement. It isn’t just about flexibility—it’s about alignment, joint integrity, breath, and nervous system regulation. Through consistent practice, I experienced a dramatic improvement in mobility, inflammation, and overall well-being. The practice showed me that the body is capable of adapting, rebuilding, and restoring when given the right tools and environment.
The more I practiced, the more I learned about core engagement, breath mechanics, and intelligent muscle activation. I became fascinated with functional movement and began refining my niche: yoga, Pilates-based concepts, and mobility work. In early 2025, I immersed myself deeper into the methodology at Functional Yoga Medicine, learning how to integrate Pilates-informed strength and therapeutic mobility to support chronic pain, joint dysfunction, and real functional resilience.
My work now focuses on building foundational strength, correcting movement patterns, and reeducating the nervous system to respond with ease rather than tension. Breathwork and intentional movement are central to my approach, helping clients reduce pain, improve posture, and move with confidence again.
As a nurse, I saw the gaps in our healthcare system—especially when it comes to managing chronic conditions. I witnessed how symptoms were medicated, not resolved, and how burnout and disconnection often became the norm. I stepped away from the ICU not because I stopped caring—but because I knew I could do more outside the system. I wanted to offer solutions that addressed the root cause, not just the symptoms.
Today, I work with clients who are navigating pain, stress, and burnout—just like I once did. My mission is to guide others through evidence-informed, holistic practices that are grounded in both science and embodiment. Together, we focus on movement that heals, strengthens, and empowers.
Healing isn’t about going back to who you were—it’s about becoming who you’re meant to be. If you’re ready to rebuild your relationship with your body and reclaim your well-being, I’m here to walk that journey with you.
